AOW – Advanced Open Water Diver

The objective of this course is for the diver to gain additional knowledge to upgrade knowledge already attained at the Open Water Diver course. Thus, the diver becomes more skilled and therefore feels more comfortable in the water. The course consists of five specialities, three of which are a requirement and two are elective, chosen by the group. It is not the intent of this course to increase the depth, time or equipment limitations as stated in the ANDI Open Water Diver standards. The AOW represents someone who seeks out more instruction and experience to enhance their confidence, safety and fun. The depth limit of an AOW certificate is 40 m.

 

Theoretical knowledge:

  • The introduction to SafeAir diving (LSU)
  • Advanced underwater navigation
  • Deeper diving
  • Other elective specialities:
    • Night diving
    • Wreck diving
    • Diving in currents
    • Diving from a boat
    • Underwater ecology
    • Search and retrieval of cargo
    • Complete buoyancy control

 

Practical Exercises:

  • At least six (6) dives in open water

 

Course duration:

3-5 days

  • Theory: 10-12 hours
  • Exercises and open water dives: 6-8 hours

 

Candidate prerequisites:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Completed medical statement (or a medical certificate not older than one year)
  • Completed liability release and assumption of risk form
  • OWD certificate and at least five (5) independent dives

Not included in the price:

  • Transport to locations, equipment rental

 

 

 

Consult with your instructor on the possibility of attending the CSU course during the Advanced Open Water Diver course. A candidate can enter the Advanced Open Water Diver course before the age of 16 with the permission of their parents/guardian, but cannot attain the certificate before their 16th birthday. Enrolment is only accepted after prepayment/deposit. In the case of unauthorized absence from the course, there is no return of the deposit.
